How Bevo Shelves offers online BWS logistics from Austalasia

The world of beers, wine and spirits has never been more of an open market with the opportunity to do business with drinks producers in any country. But it has also become increasingly complicated, costly and timely to send drinks around the world, particularly from so-called deep sea markets. Bevo Shelves hopes it can make importing beverages of any persuasion from Australia and New Zealand, in particular, far more straight forward with its new logistics and shipping support platform. Andrew Jones explains how it works.

Bevo Shelves claims it can offer producers and buyers their own export and import platform capable of handling numerous contracts at any time.

What is your elevator pitch for Bevo Shelves?

Bevo Shelves offers tech and data-driven solutions to the global b2b distribution and export and import of quality Australasian beverages. A one stop shop to securely purchase amazing Australian and New Zealand wines, spirits and beers, 24/7, with full logistic and shipping support as required.

What do you see as being your key USPs compared to what else is available in the market?

The Buyer

Andrew Jones is using his wide experience working in Australian beverage and hospitality sector with Bevo Shelves

There are three unique aspects to Bevo Shelves:
1. Access to multiple suppliers with a single onboarding process, rather than establishing contracts and completing credit checks with each individual vendor.
2. Orders can be across multiple suppliers, at any one time, and can be collated for shipping on the buyer’s behalf, with the whole process supported ‘door to door’.
3. All transactions via a secure escrow account that gives peace of mind to both the buyer and the supplier.

Where did the thinking behind Bevo Shelves come from?

The Bevo Shelves team are originally from the liquor industry but with much interest and experience in tech. We could clearly see both the growth in popularity of e-commerce and b2b platforms and the lack of such platforms to support the Australasian Liquor Industries and export. Many suppliers of quality beverages are striving for incremental revenue streams and to build global sales of their brands. Bevo Shelves supports them to achieve this,

How have you developed the platform and how long has it taken?

It has taken 18 months of development and the recruitment of suppliers has really only happened in the past few months.

How do you simplify the whole process of importing, exporting and distributing beverage products?

We are a 24/7 one stop shop. Buyers need only to set up their membership once and can then access all products available. No need for terms and contracts with numerous suppliers. Orders can be placed at any time, in any time zone, and across multiple suppliers. We can collate orders, negotiate improved pricing for volume buys and secure exclusive distribution arrangements.

Depending on how much the buyer wants to manage their own shipping arrangements we can ensure the products reach their door in the best possible condition.

How have you built up your portfolio of Aussie and New Zealand drinks exporters?

Beverage producers are seeing that it makes sense to be on the platform. For a small subscription they in effect either create their own export department, or shift their current export to the platform to save money. Bevo Shelves promotes and markets their brands globally and gives them easy access to international buyers. We remove the obstacles for them and demonstrate the opportunity to increase their revenues. We started with just beers and spirits but due to buyer demand we have now opened up to wines. We have teams in both Australia and New Zealand.

Bevo Shelves hopes to offer an online logistics solution for drinks producers and buyers

What types of business do you think will benefit the most from Bevo Shelves?

We are a two sided business in that we are nothing without both buyers, wholesalers, distributors and producers and suppliers. We, therefore, recognise the need to offer solutions, value and positive outcomes for both sides of the transaction.

Could you give a couple of practical examples of how Bevo Shelves can help a buyer?

Bevo Shelves can support buyers to find new products for their market. Products that can give a point of difference to their own competitors. We can support in securing the right price and even exclusive distribution arrangements if required. If a buyer wants to access wine, spirits and beer all at once, and delivered in one shipment then we can make that happen. We endeavour to remove any obstacles, reduce costs and hassle and guarantee safe and secure financial transactions.

What markets are you aiming Bevo Shelves at?

The UK is a focus market for Bevo Shelves along with South East Asia, China and Taiwan. Up to 85% of all beverage export from Australasia is wine. We see that Bevo Shelves can also help increase the exports of quality craft beer and artisanal spirits.

Are you looking to widen the product base on top of Australia and New Zealand products?

Once established we see the opportunity to replicate this model for the UK and US markets, enabling producers there to build greater export volumes.

The Buyer

Can you explain how your Bevo Shelves Escrow platform works?

We partner with Check Vault to ensure the security of all transactions. Once a sale has been agreed, both buyers and sellers are verified and qualified via Check Vault (anti-money laundering, KYC etc). This is just if it’s a first time transaction.

The Bevo Shelves escrow account allows for flexibility in the sale agreement too. For example, it could be agreed that 50% is paid to the producer in advance of shipping and the remainder on the arrival of the product at the destination port and to the satisfaction of the buyer. That remaining 50% is held in escrow until we have received that satisfaction is confirmed.

Anything else to say?

We will be in the UK in the last couple of weeks of March, with great products to sample and showcase, and keen to meet with buyers interested in exploring the platform more and those looking for some new products to add to their portfolios.
