Wines of South Africa in search for its top UK sommelier
The Buyer has teamed up with Wines of South Africa to help it in its search for its 2016 sommelier of the year as part of its Sommelier Cup competition.
The worldwide competition aims to seek out leading sommeliers from around the globe and bring them together for a week-long Cape Winelands extravaganza of winery visits, exclusive tastings and fine dining, all against the backdrop of the world’s most spectacular vineyards.
How to take part
First step is to register for the competition at www.wosasommeliercup.co.za
The UK leg of the competition will be held on June 13 2016 at 67 Pall Mall, London, SW1Y 5ES. The winner from this round will travel to South Africa, with the finalists from other participating countries, to decide who will take home the Wines of South Africa Sommelier Cup 2016, in a final competition at the end of the trip.
The UK competition will run from 10.00 – 18.00 on June 13 and you can arrive at any time during the day and allow an hour and a half to complete the test.
This will involve a multiple choice exam on South African wines, blind tasting and short discussion with judges Ronan Sayburn MS and Greg Sherwood MW of Handford Wines. There will also be a free pour tasting for you to enjoy on the day, at your leisure.
All entrants must be available to travel to South Africa from September 17-24 2016.
