The Larchargo range from Rioja is a highlight from our Spain selection, and make sure you don’t miss their Rioja Blanco which is always good fun, says Crowther.
MT – Right Harry, give me a bit of spiel about Buckingham Schenk, what’s their background and what are they offering?
HC – Buckingham Schenk is one of the UK’s top wine importers. Founded in 1974,we deal with every part of the UK market, from the major retailers and national off-licence chains to restaurant and pub groups, independent retailers and regional wholesalers.
Buckingham Schenk is part of the family owned Schenk Group, which was founded even further back in 1893 and has wineries across Europe.

MT – What have you come on board to help with?
HC – I like the portfolio and I see a lot of value at certain price points as well as some more challenging wines for the mature consumer. Naturally London is notoriously difficult to crack, and I have come on board on a part-time basis in a business development role. The goal here is to get the wines in front of the right people and develop some exposure and new business.
MT – Now you know I’m one of those weird sustainability bores, so I’ve got to ask, what’s their portfolio make-up in terms of sustainability? Do they use a specific definition?
HC – Buckingham Schenk’s wine list, which is an exclusive portfolio to the on-trade and independent retailers, includes a good range of organic wines including those from sustainability giants like New Zealand, but also Italian and French.

MT – Tough question now, but if you had to highlight three of their wines to turn us all on, what are they and why?
HC – Er…yeah, so I love Rock Ferry as a producer, especially the Rieslings they produce in New Zealand, really great to have them on the lists. Can that count as one? The Larchargo range from Rioja is a highlight from our Spain selection, and make sure you don’t miss their Rioja Blanco which is always good fun.
And then, a third….hmmm…dunno, maybe something from Italy? To keep with the Mediterranean theme of the tasting check out Marco Zanatta’s Cannonau di Sardegna, again something a bit fun and a bit different, Sardinian Grenache and good value too.
MT – And most importantly, how do we get in touch with them?
HC – Give them a call, send them an email, they’ll get back to you. You OK to pop the contact details at the bottom later on?
MT – We can do that, thanks for your time bud
HC – Cheers Mike, all the best
