Jonathan Kleeman on Twisted Cellar and enjoying Christmas

It’s been an exciting 2018 for Jonathan Kleeman. With already bags of sommelier experience under his belt working at The Ritz, Social Eating House and the two Michelin starred Quattro Passi, this was the year that Kleeman joined two start up business, initially at new Japanese fusion restaurant, Four Degree in London, before being signed up as head of buying for a new wine merchants business in Bishops Stortford, Twisted Cellar. It’s a wonder he found time to take a break for Christmas at all…

Jonathan Kleeman takes time out to share what he got up to at Christmas and why 2018 was such an important year for him.

What did you get up to at Christmas?

I always celebrate Christmas and my birthday at the same time with my family (yes I am a Christmas baby hence turning water into wine).

What did you eat on Christmas day?

Duck. We never have turkey as my dad is a chef, but also because turkey is the Dane Cook of meats.

What did you drink?

Champagne is a must with family so my cellar took a bit of a hit over over the three days that we were all together. I had a 2005 Clos Vougeot Jean Tardy that I had earmarked for some time for the duck which worked out very well.

What would be your ultimate dream Christmas?

The Buyer

Christmas dinner with Die Hard’s John McClane and Hans Gruber would certainly add a bit more tension to the Christmas dinner

People to spend it with: My family, John McClane and Hans Gruber (at different ends of the table of course).

What would you be eating: Venison with all the trimmings

What you drinking: Chateau Margaux 1982.

Favourite Christmas related film: I think you might have guessed by now. There is only one right answer to this and that’s ‘Die Hard’.

Favourite Christmas song:

Run D.M.C – Christmas in Hollis

What Christmas song would you happily never hear again:

Band Aid and Don’t They Know It’s Christmas.

Any classic old Christmas TV favourites from the past:

Father Ted: A Christmassy Ted

How has 2018 been for you overall?

Despite politics dominating everything it has from a personal point of view been overall a good year.

Your hopes for 2019?
