The Buyer Raises a Glass to Katy Moses and the KAM Media team

The Buyer introduced its ‘Raise a Glass To’ awards this summer to shine the light on individuals who we believe have gone the proverbial extra mile to help the industry we all work in. Today we shine the light on Katy Moses, managing director of KAM Media, who has helped share the views of leaders right across the hospitality and retail sectors in a series of video interviews from the moment we went into lockdown on March 23, as well as give her own expertise for free in countless webinars and reports she, and her team, have produced during Covid-19. For all your efforts The Buyer Raise a Glass to You.

KAM Media has done all it can to help both analyse the disrupted world we are all living through and interview leading figures helping up to tackle them.

If you don’t know KAM Media then you should. Particularly if you work in hospitality, restaurants, bars, pubs, or grocery retail – and the drinks industry that supplies them.

Its day job is usually commenting on and assessing both the on and off-trades, talking to operators, pub groups and restaurant chains and coming up with the trends and insights that are dictating what makes consumers go to what sort of outlet.

In normal times the KAM Media team is happy to be behind the scenes, working with their trade contacts to provide reports and white papers that can help them run their businesses.

But the Covid-19 crisis has thrown their world upside down too. It is pretty impossible to get the majority of customers you work in to pay for any reports you are producing if they are closed for business like so much of the on-trade was from March to July this year.

One of a number of free reports that KAM Media has produced during Covid-19

How could they help?

So founder and managing director, Katy Moses, and her team, did what so many of the businesses they report on had to do – change and adapt fast to the world we are all now living in.

Rather than stop producing reports for a sector that was not in a position to pay for them Kam Media carried on regardless pulling together a series of reports, carrying out surveys, tracking consumer behaviour, compiling white papers in order to keep the business leaders across hospitality as best informed as they could during the dark days of lockdown.

It has also done the same for the retail and convenience sectors, working with trade associations, and media to keep their members and readers on top of the latest buying and consumer trends throughout the pandemic.

Hospitality Talks YouTube series

Here Katy Moses talks to Tim Foster, co-founder of Yummy Pubs back on March 27 about how it was planning to cope through lockdown

But most of all Moses transformed herself into an interviewer and over the course of the last six months has carried out tens of one to one video recordings with business leaders, pub owners, restaurant chiefs, financiers, consultants, convenience store directors, and the various trade associations.

She started what are bite sized, but in-depth 10 minute interviews on March 25, just two days into total lockdown and is still carrying on today talking to different hospitality and retail business leaders about how this ever changing crisis is impacting their companies, but offering insights for all.

If you have not been following the series you can catch up with all the video interviews on the KAM Media YouTube channel here.

They have, in their own, become a visual record of all the ups, and mostly downs, we have all had to go through, but the style and mood is also very much on the front foot. Not dwelling on how bad the situation is, but what are different pub groups, restaurant or convenience chains doing to meet the challenges they are faced with and most of all share the best advice for all to follow.

We continue to see great examples of how individuals, and businesses, have really stepped up to help others during Covid-19, but none more so than Katy Moses, herself, and all the work she has done setting up and carrying out the interviews, but the wider KAM Media team for the work and reports they have produced to help us all at this time.

That’s why The Buyer would like to Raise A Glass to Katy and all at KAM Media. Cheers!
