The New York Wine & Grape Foundation (NYWGF)
The New York Wine & Grape Foundation was founded in 1985 with a mission to promote the world-class image of New York grapes and wines from the state’s diverse regions. We invite you to experience the wines, and the minds behind the wines, that create the Boldly, NY. community.
A terroir for every taste. With six official American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) ranging from maritime to cool climate, New York state is home to some of the most diverse terroir in the U.S. Our major wine growing areas are the Finger Lakes, Lake Erie, the Niagara Escarpment, the Hudson Valley, Long Island and the Champlain Valley. These varied climates, soils, and bodies of water with techniques aimed at preserving them, all combine to create unique conditions that produce countless varieties of dynamic wines, each with its own story to tell. And you can only find them in New York.
Grown in New York. Inspired from everywhere. Our winemakers come from all over the world to pursue their passion in New York. In each one of them, you will find a unique perspective, approach to the craft, and personality that make our wines so exciting. And they are always happy to share their story.
Freedom to create. We appreciate the traditions that other wine regions revere, but we are just as excited to create our own. We embrace the time tested and the contemporary with a freedom to choose our own destiny. This openness means that New York wines offer something for every palate.
Vines have been planted here since the late 17th century and there are currently more than 450 wineries in the state. Today, the range and diversity of wines from New York are commanding the world’s attention.
NYWGF has a series of activities planned throughout the year to showcase the wines from New York State.
