Richard Siddle asks Sid Patel, founder of the Beverage Trade Network, why he is launching the new consumer drinks platform, the London Drinks Guide.
What is the London Drinks Guide?
The London Drinks Guide is your ideal space to look for wines, beers, spirits and cocktails recommended by noted bartenders and sommeliers from around the world. They will share their latest cocktails and recipes and talk about makes their bars pop. Information about the best bars to hit in combination with local and global pop culture will give the guide a definitive flavour.

The London Drinks Guide aims to be the source of your information on global and local drinking culture.
The online magazine is set to become the best guide for Londoners, and anyone visiting London as they connect with the top bartenders and sommeliers, owners of bars, restaurants, and pubs around London, and across Europe as well.
With the help of the London Drinks Guide, you can go from, “I have no idea what wine to buy while staring at the discount section at your local supermarket” to “Hve you tried this Manto Negre from Mallorca” or “I know this amazing hidden bar that we have to go to”.
Not only will you find what you’re looking for in the drinks industry, but you will also get to learn about wines, beers, spirits, and the industry as a whole from industry experts.
Why are you looking to launch this now?
It actually goes live from May 1. The Beverage Trade Network is in a unique position to make this the best guide for Londoners. We have for the last 14 years provided a web platform that has allowed beer, wine and spirits companies to connect with importers and distributors from all over the world. It is now one of the top 10 most visited beverage sites in the world.
Thanks to its online success BTN then expanded its operations into running a series a drinks trade shows and educational conferences across the globe. These include the International Bulk Wine & Spirits Show in San Francisco, London, and Shanghai, The Cannabis Drinks Expo in San Francisco & Chicago, The Cannabis Food Show in Chicago and USA Trade Tasting in New York City.
Through all these activities we have been able to work closely and forge ties with the top drinks buyers across supermarkets, importers wine merchants as well as top bartenders, sommeliers, bar owners and restaurateurs as they are all judges in our three main B2B drinks competitions.
We have also now started to produce our own regular popular podcast, The Wine, Whiskey, and Weed show where each weekly episode I look to talk to business leaders across the drinks and hospitality sectors.
The London Drinks Guide has been a long time coming and is really a culmination of the work that BTN has been doing all these years.
There are lots of online consumer drinks guides, why do you think yours will be different?
We have gone from strength to strength in the B2B drinks industry and now feel the time is right to take our expertise and contacts and talk directly to consumers with a unique platform that is based on the expertise of those sharing their views on it. We think our combination of information and education will be both interesting and fun for consumers.
Will you be looking to promote and talk about the winner in the London Drinks Competitions on the London Drinks Guide?
Absolutely. It’s the perfect platform for it and part of the reason why we are ready to launch now as we are now into our third year of the three separate awards and built up a database of suppliers, producers and judges who we can now work with and promote on The Guide.
